KLM/Alitalia's Latin rejig - Alliance partners KLM and Alitalia are reorganising their networks to Latin America. For summer 2000, KLM will replace indirect flights between Amsterdam and Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires with direct services, while dropping its Rio de Janeiro service in favour of Alitalia, which flies there five times weekly from Rome and Milan.
BM pushes for New York - British Midland (BM) has applied to the US Department of Transportation to be exempted from the UK-US bilateral Bermuda II for services between London Heathrow and New York from next year. BM says fares from Heathrow to the USA can be 30% higher than for transatlantic routes from other European cities.
Swiss adds Libya, Peru - Swissair is adding Benghazi in Libya to its route network, with two flights weekly on an Airbus A320. The carrier recently began flying to Peru via Atlanta as a codeshare with Delta Air Lines.
