South Africa has signed a long-awaited deal for four Westland Super Lynx 300 maritime helicopters. The machines will be operated from South African National Defence Force Meko corvettes. South Africa picked the Super Lynx in November 1998 as part of a larger rearmaments package. The deal will include industrial participation, with South African firms supplying some systems while AgustaWestland will source South African components and systems for a variety of other helicopter projects. Parent companies, GKN and Finmeccanica will make extra investments in the country.
