TELEFLEX AND GE Aircraft Engines have agreed to form a joint venture, called Airfoil Technologies International, to repair commercial aero-engine fan blades and compressor aerofoils. The venture, which will be 51% owned by Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania-based Teleflex, is expected to begin operations before the end of this year.
Airfoil Technologies will combine the repair capabilities of Teleflex subsidiary Sermatech International and GE Engine Services. The venture will have repair centres in Mentor, Ohio, and Ripley, UK, and plans to build a compressor-aerofoil repair centre in the Asia-Pacific region.
Sermatech provides coating and repair services to turbine-engine manufacturers, over-haulers and operators through an international network of ten service centres. GE Engine Services operates eight overhaul and repair centres in Singapore, the UK and USA.
