The USA and India expect to reach a liberalised bilateral air services treaty by spring. A pact updating the 1956 accord would allow for far more direct service and increased codesharing between the two trading partners. About 2 million passengers now fly between the countries each year. Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines are the only two US flag carriers linking the two nations.
