Russia has reportedly sold a dozen Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jets to its political ally Vietnam.

"Last week, a contract was signed t0 supply Vietnam with 12 more Su-30MK2 fighter planes," Russia's Interfax news agency quotes "a military-diplomatic source" as saying.

"The planes will be supplied in 2011 and 2012," says the source.

Vietnam already has Sukhoi fighters and the report says in early 2009 Vietnam signed a contract to buy eight Su-30MK2 fighters.

Russian embassy officials in Hanoi would neither confirm nor deny the report when contacted by Flight International today. Officials in Moscow from Russia's arms export agency, Rosoboronexport, were also unavailable for comment.
