Latin American low-cost operator Viva Air has firmed its order for 50 Airbus A320-family jets, which the company disclosed during the Paris air show.

It will be taking 35 A320neos and 15 regular A320s which will be distributed among the group's VivaColombia and new Viva Air Peru carriers.

The two airlines already have small A320 fleets.

Medellin-based VivaColombia chief William Shaw says the order reflects a "long-term commitment" to bringing down fares.

No engine selection has been disclosed, although VivaColombia and Viva Air Peru both use CFM International CFM56-powered aircraft.

Shaw had previously indicated that deliveries of the 50 new jets would begin in 2020.
