The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) has taken the unusual step of launching a major advertising campaign aimed at restoring confidence in air travel following the September attacks in the USA.
Television and print advertisements are now running, and the campaign is set to continue until the end of April. Key markets include Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, says the AAPA, which represents most of Asia's major carriers. "The urgent need to restore confidence in travel is an industry issue that requires support from the various stakeholders," says director general Richard Stirland.
"The campaign focuses on intra-Asia travel, as our statistics show that intra-regional travel accounts for a significant portion of our member airlines' revenue passenger kilometres. Coupled with the uncertain economic situation, it makes sense to focus our efforts within the region first."
