GECAS's regional aircraft group is to lease three new Bombardier Q400s to German carrier Air Berlin.
The US lessor says the first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in September and the others in October in November.
It adds that the turboprops are from GECAS's orderbook with Bombardier. Flightglobal's Fleets Analyzer database indicates that GECAS has five Q400s on order, while Air Berlin unit LGW has 17 Q400s in service.
"The demand for economical turboprops continues to expand, and we are thrilled to enter into this new lease with Air Berlin and help them expand their Q400 fleet," says GECAS chief executive Alec Burger, who replaced Norm Liu at the beginning of the year.
Formed in 2000, GECAS's regional aircraft group leases nearly 400 turboprop and regional jet aircraft to airlines, says the lessor.
Fleets Analyzer shows that at 31 December 2015, GECAS had a fleet of 1,567 aircraft worth almost $31 billion. That put it second only to AerCap in a ranking of lessors by fleet value, but GECAS had the larger fleet of owned and managed aircraft.
