Air France pilots went on strike from 6-9 September after they failed to reach agreement with management on wages. Pilots' unions are calling for a 17% increase, rejecting a two-phase 7.3% pay deal already on the table. As Flight International went to press, Air France was expecting medium-haul flights to be the most affected with 48% cancellations, 38% of long-haul flights cancelled and 30% of short-haul services. Air France says in the current economic climate it cannot up the offer, but adds the "path to talks stays open on a basis which is economically viable for the company".
