Air Transat, will acquire two ex-TAP Air Portugal TriStar 500s early in 1997, to operate non-stop charters to Canada from Europe, including flights to the UK on behalf of the UK tour operator Globespan. A further two aircraft may be added later. The long-range aircraft will replace Air Transat's shorter-range TriStar 1/150s and Boeing 757s, enabling the refuelling stops now required, to be eliminated.
