Middle Eastern carrier Oman Air has secured approval to offer type rating on Boeing aircraft, with a formal certification as a training organisation.
The airline’s facility is the first in the sultanate to secure approved training organisation certification from the Oman civil aviation authority.
“Achieving ATO certification represents a major step forward in Oman Air’s operational journey,” says the carrier’s chief operating officer, Capt Nasser Al Salmi.
“It enables us to continue delivering specialised, high-quality training that reflects our operational needs and safety standards.”

The airline says it has started training its first batch of cadets – graduated from an airline transport pilot licence scheme – alongside other pilots undertaking transition from Airbus jets to the Boeing 737 and 787.
Oman Air operates several variants of the 737, including the Max 8, as well as the 787-9.
It has been striving for greater Omani citizenship representation among its crews, and claims an ‘Omanisation’ rate of 88% among pilots.
“By empowering Oman Air to deliver advanced training locally, we are supporting national capability-building and laying the groundwork for the sector’s long-term growth,” says Oman civil aviation authority president Naif Al Abri.
