Some unionised Embraer metalworkers in Sao Jose dos Campos began striking on 17 September after the union rejected a company wage offer, though the airframer insists its aircraft production facilities are “operating normally”.

Leaders of union Sindicato dos Metalurgicos rejected a salary proposal submitted by Embraer and called a strike at 06:00 on 17 September, the union says.

It is unclear how many workers walked off the job.

Some union members outside Embraer’s Sao Jose dos Campos facility were attempting to disrupt the site’s operations, Embraer says.

“Embraer factories are operating normally. No impact on production,” the company says.

The dispute involves 2026 wages.

Embraer says it was surprised union leaders rejected a proposal instead of bringing the proposal to members for a vote.

Manufacturing trade association Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo is negotiating with the union on behalf of Embraer. That association represents some 130,000 firms in the state of Sao Paulo.
