Textron next year will eliminate Textron eAviation as a distinct business unit and realign the division’s electric aviation and other work into different business units, including Textron Aviation.
The company’s eAviation division includes Slovenian electric aircraft producer Pipistrel, the Nexus electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) passenger aircraft programme and products for military applications.

Textron created its eAviation business unit in the second quarter of 2022 when it acquired Pipistrel.
The company disclosed the pending realignment in a 17 October regulatory filing, saying Textron’s board of directors “approved a plan to eliminate Textron eAviation as a separate reporting segment”, effective on 4 January 2026.
The change will leave Textron with five reporting business units, down from six
The company will shift “a significant part” of eAviation, including Pipistrel, into Textron Aviation, which is primarily a producer of general aviation and business aircraft. That change will “enable the business to more-effectively leverage the development, manufacturing and sales expertise at Textron Aviation”, the firm says.
The filing does not specifically mention eAviation’s long-running development of the Nexus eVTOL.
However, Textron tells FlightGlobal, “This change does not impact our Nexus efforts… The Nexus programme will fall under Aviation”.
Textron eAviation said last year that it aimed to complete first flight of Nexus this year, though the status of the programme is otherwise unclear.
The newly revealed realignment will also involve Textron shifting eAviation’s “manned and unmanned products for military applications, and related research and development activities”, into Textron Systems, which primarily produces products for military and other government customers.
Textron Systems is “best suited to provide more direct access to the targeted customer base for these products”, the company says.
“Finally, certain Textron eAviation research and development activities encompassing digital flight control and air vehicle management systems, which we expect will benefit several of our segments, will be reported within corporate expenses,” Textron adds.
The company will begin reporting financial results under the new five-segment structure with its first-quarter 2026 report.
Story updated on 17 October to include a comment from Textron about Nexus.
