AIRNET SYSTEMS, a US air-freight carrier specialising in same-night delivery of cancelled cheques, documents and packages, has acquired Dallas, Texas-based regional air-courier Midway Aviation for $3 million. The deal adds 8,000km (4,300nm) and ten cities to AirNet's 137,000km network.
The acquisition includes ten aircraft. Separately, Columbus, Ohio-based AirNet has also acquired six Learjet 35s. Together, these deals take the company's fleet to 98 aircraft, of which 29 are Learjets and the rest piston-powered aircraft. Two of the Learjet 35s have been delivered, and the remaining four, purchased from Executive Jet Aviation, will be delivered in October.
AirNet says that it has about 54% of the US cheque-transfer market, with the US Government holding the bulk of the rest.
The company is now repainting its fleet with the AirNet logo.
