The Italian air force has taken delivery of its first C-27J Spartan tactical transport from Alenia Aeronautica. Twelve C-27Js will replace G222s and will be used to carry troops and cargo, as well as for civil protection and firefighting. Alenia expects to deliver a second aircraft to the air force this month, a third in May and the remaining nine by the end of 2008. Alenia has also received C-27J orders from Greece, Bulgaria and Lithuania and awaits formal signature of a contract with Romania.
