American reshuffle

In an effort to strengthen its customer service team and save money, American Airlines has named Ralph Richardi, 54, as senior vice-president customer services and has made a series of executive reassignments around this appointment.

Richardi, a 26-year veteran of the carrier, has most recently served as vice-president operations planning and performance, and will report to American's president Gerard Arpey. He is filling a position vacated when Dan Garton assumed the role of executive vice-president marketing upon Mike Gunn's retirement.

Robert Cordes takes over Richardi's former position; David Cush becomes vice-president St Louis hub; Robert Olson is now vice-president corporate planning; Carolyn Wright becomes vice-president revenue management; Timothy Ahern becomes vice-president Dallas/Fort Worth hub; and Peggy Sterling is now vice-president safety, security and environmental.

"Supporting American's current cost reduction efforts, these moves will eliminate a managing director position in international planning and alliances, and a vice-president position in human resources," says the carrier.
