Air New Zealand (ANZ) late last week was preparing to use subsidiaries - Air Nelson, Eagle Air, Freedom Air and Mount Cook - to defeat a 48h strike threat by its Airline Pilots Association set for 19 July. ANZ says the planned stoppage is the result of a "misconception that job security and promotional prospects are adversely affected by the airline group's development plans". The carrier also plans to use mainline pilots from the Federation of Airline Pilots of New Zealand union, which has a separate collective employment agreement. ANZ says the stoppage is "unnecessary, unjustified and unlawful".
