An Australian appeal ruling has given Qantas and Air New Zealand some vindication by declaring that Australia's competition commission wrongly denied their proposed equity alliance. This contradicts a recent decision on appeal in New Zealand. But because the two airlines failed to gain approval in both countries, their proposal is dead. Air New Zealand chief executive Ralph Norris says they could revive it in a couple of years.
