The US Congressional Research Service reports that the value of military export deals totalled $32 billion in 1996, the first yearly increase since 1992. The USA topped the arms-sales league, with exports of $11 billion, compared with $9 billion in 1995. The UK improved from 1995's $1 billion, to $5 billion. Russia's market share dropped from $8 billion in 1995 to $5 billion in 1996.The CRS says China is not expected to be a major supplier of weaponry in the near term.
