The Israeli Aircraft Industries Arrow anti-tactical ballistic missile system is to be tested in the USA in 2003 against a real, rather than simulated, Scud missile target. The test will be performed at one of the main US test ranges. An Israeli team has recently toured likely locations.
An Israeli Defence Force Arrow battery will be shipped to the USA for the trials. The USA has acquired Scud missiles from a number of sources. Several Middle Eastern nations including Iran, Iraq and Syria have access to Scud and its developments. Previous Arrow tests have been against a variety of systems which follow a ballistic trajectory, therefore simulating the terminal phase of a Scud launch.
