Elta Systems has been awarded a "large contract" to supply a tactical aircraft-carried imagery intelligence system to what it describes as a "prestigious customer" in the Asia-Pacific region.

Under the deal, which has been placed via programme prime contractor Elbit Systems, the Israel Aerospace Industries subsidiary will supply an undisclosed number of EL/M-2060P synthetic aperture radar/ground moving target indication (SAR/GMTI) payloads to the un-named buyer.

The nation in question is understood to already be operating a version of Elbit's long-range oblique photography system, which provides high-resolution electro-optical and infrared imagery from stand-off range. By adding the SAR/GMTI payload, the customer will possess a multi-sensor, all-weather tactical intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance capability.

"The combination of sensors, including real-time analysis and exploitation ground stations, will give our customer a crucial intelligence edge," says Elta president Nissim Hadas.
