ATR has opened an office in Beijing to cover China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan.
ATR is already present in China via Urumqi-based Xinjiang Airlines which has been operating five ATR 72-500 aircraft, delivered between 1997 and 1998. China has also been significantly involved for many years in the manufacturing of full sections of the ATR 72 fuselage and ATR 42 wings.
ATR chief executive Jean-Michel L‚onard said the new office reflects the manufacturer's desire to strengthen its presence in an area experiencing record growth. "China represents a very significant sales potential for our product line. ATR aircraft will provide an unmatchable mix of low operating costs and jet-like comfort for the Chinese market."
Patrick Devaux heads the office, assisted by Franklin Tian, Chinese sales engineer.
