UK police are investigating after a British Airways Airbus A320 suffered a suspected collision with an unmanned air vehicle while inbound to London Heathrow.

The aircraft was operating flight BA727 from Geneva, the carrier states, with 132 passengers and five crew members.

The Metropolitan Police Service says that a pilot on the aircraft informed police that he believed the jet had hit a drone before landing.

After touchdown on runway 27L the aircraft was inspected.

“It transpired that an object, believed to be a drone, had struck the front of the aircraft,” says the police service. It adds that it received the report at 12:50 on 17 April.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue, the police service states. Aviation police, based at Heathrow, are investigating.

British Airways says the aircraft landed safely and was “fully examined” by the carrier’s engineers before being cleared to operate its next flight.

“Safety and security are always our first priority,” the airline adds. “We will give the police every assistance with their investigation.”
