British Airways operations were severely disrupted by a 24h walk-out by about 250 London Heathrow ground staff on 18 July. The action was in response to BA's plans to implement a new swipe card system to record the start and end of shifts, and led to a severe backlog at Heathrow's Terminals 1 and 4, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
BA's chief executive, Rod Eddington, says the strike will cost the airline "tens of millions of pounds".
