British Airways is attributing a fall in January’s passenger traffic to disruption from the landing accident at London Heathrow last month.
Passenger traffic slipped by 1.6%, resulting in a marginal decrease in load factor to 69.2% for the month. Non-premium traffic fell by 3.5% although premium traffic increased by 8.8%.
BA says the figures were affected by a “significant” number of cancellations following the Boeing 777 accident on 17 January, while fog and high winds resulted in further cancellations as traffic-flow rates were reduced.
Freight traffic increased by 16% during the month.
