British Aerospace (BAe) Australia has teamed with Canberra-based CEA Technologies to launch a missile data uplink and terminal guidance system for surface ships.
The Continuous Wave Illuminator will provide advanced surface-to-air uplink and terminal target illumination capabilities to naval air warfare platforms, says BAe Australia. The system comprises an active phased array transmitter, linked to the ship radar and weapons direction systems. This will provide a launched missile with mid-course updates and terminal illumination of a target, allowing semi-active missiles to lock on.
The system will be capable of handling multiple target engagements, and could be retrofitted on vessels as small as corvettes, says BAe Australia.
