A composite/aluminium-hybrid blast-resistant cargo container for aircraft, developed by New Jersey-based Galaxy Scientific, has successfully passed two US Federal Aviation Administration screening processes and is to be prepared for field tests in July.
The trials may lead to certfication in the third or fourth quarter of 1998. The Galaxy container is made from a composite material called GLARE 5, which is produced by laminating aluminium-alloy sheets with layers of glassfibre reinforced-plastic.
