Boeing and Lockheed Martin are to conduct parallel programmes worth around £4.5 million ($8 million) each to demonstrate technologies needed to conduct a mission system upgrade to the UK Royal Air Force’s seven Boeing E-3D Sentry airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft. A decision on the proposed upgrade to the Sentry fleet is expected in mid-2007, with a contract award due later that year.
