Boeing has delivered the first new 767-400Ers to Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines, ahead of the new stretch derivative's entry into service later this month. Launch customer Delta has orders for 21 of the 287-seat aircraft to replace 18 remaining L1011s TriStars on domestic routes with 40 options.
The airline will receive 12 aircraft by year-end and the remainder by April 2002. Continental has ordered 26 in a 270-seat configuration to replace its 27 remaining DC-10-30s by 2005 on routes to Europe and Latin America. Four will be delivered by the end of the year.
