Boeing Commercial Airplanes is warning that it expects to make another 5,000 job cuts next year in addition to the 30,000 made in the wake of 11 September 2001. This will reduce the workforce at its Everett and Renton plants to 60,000 by the end of next year. Meanwhile, Boeing Integrated Defence Systems president Jim Albaugh said in a letter to local US Congresswoman Jane Harmon that the company may have to lay off 1,500 from its El Segundo-based commercial satellite unit if business does not pick up.
