Bombardier Belfast
Almost one hundred years ago, in November 1908, Short Brothers was registered as an aircraft manufacturer. A contract to build six Wright Flyers for the Wright Brothers followed, which entitled the company to be called the first manufacturer of aircraft in the world.
The subsequent decades were full of extraordinary aeronautical innovation including the great C-Class Empire flying boats, the SC1 vertical take-off and landing research aircraft, and the SD3-30 and SD-60 commuter aircraft programmes. Today, as an integral part of Bombardier Aerospace, the Belfast operation plays a key role in all of Bombardier’s aircraft families and is one of Europe’s leading designers and manufacturers of major aircraft structures and nacelle systems, in metal and advanced composites.
