That Bombardier should be at Farnborough with several new products should come as little surprise: for nearly half of the 12 years since it entered the aerospace business, it has delivered a new product to market each year.
"We believe we have made pioneering efforts in this business which we came into 12 years ago," says Bombardier president Bob Brown.
Aerospace accounts for 53% of Bombardier's business and it is Brown's boast that his is the only major aerospace company with a significant presence on both sides of the Atlantic.
The company's order backlog now stands at $18.1 billion "-and that is based to a large extent on new products coming into the market."
With new products and services accounting for 68% of the company's business, Brown says that the company has doubled sales in the last five years.
It aims to double sales again over the next five years - and will not rely on acquisitions to do it. Says Brown: "We tried very hard to a balanced portfolio. We think that gives us good positioning as we go forward in the next period of time."
