Embraer has received a $380 million contract from the Brazilian air force for 76 ALX light strike aircraft, with options for a further 23.

Viewed as an initial order, the contract will see delivery of 25 single-seat versions and 51 twin-seat ALXs, designated by the air force the A-29 and AT-29, respectively.

Delivery of the first ALX is set for November 2003, and the last airframe should be handed over in August 2006. The air force has a 99-aircraft requirement, and expects to exercise its options in 2008 pending availability of funds.

The A/AT-29s will replace Embraer MB326GB Xavantes.
