The Bulgarian air force has received its first three Pilatus PC-9M turboprop trainers under a deal worth over €33 million ($43 million). Delivered on 18 November, the initial batch of aircraft will be followed by three more in early December.

Bulgaria ordered six PC-9Ms last year, and intends to expand its fleet of the aircraft to 12. The country's acquisition included the delivery of one PC-12 in December 2003, plus the provision of training services, spare parts and logistics support.

The PC-9Ms will be used for basic training and advanced instruction including weapons use.
