Lear 25 cockpits

Universal Avionics has received a US Federal Aviation Administration supplemental type certificate for retrofit installation of its EFI-890R cockpit display systems in Bombardier Learjet models 25, 25A, 25B and 25C and 25F. Stevens Aviation in Nashville, Tennessee performed the STC approval work using a Learjet 25D owned by Best Jets, based in Denison, Texas. The upgrade included primary flight and navigation 890R displays as well as Universal's synthetic vision system, called Vision-1, a UNS-1L flight management system, a terrain awareness and warning system and an application server that provide WSI weather and Jeppesen charts for a paperless cockpit.

Axxess approval

AirCell has received European Aviation Safety Agency approval for its Axxess satellite communications system on a Cessna Citation 650, and approvals for "several additional aircraft types" are imminent, according to the company. Axxess provides two Iridium satcom channels for voice and narrowband data, with expansion ports for two more channels, plus an Ethernet port that allows an Inmarsat broadband connection to be plugged in.

Embraer Czechs in

ABS Jets of the Czech Republic is to open an authorised Embraer maintenance centre at Prague's Ruzyne airport. The facility is the Brazilian manufacturer's first in central and eastern Europe and will be more convenient for customers in the region than alternative sites in Düsseldorf and Zurich, says Petr Málek, marketing director of parent company J&T.

Back in business

Universal Aviation has fully restored its fixed-base operation at Paris's Le Bourget airport, four months after a fire damaged the newly opened facility. The FBO, which also includes a 3,000m2 (32,300ft2) hangar, continued to operate during the rebuilding process.
