Trinidad's BWIA International Airways is close to sealing a commercial agreement with Air Canada, industry sources say. BWIA is initially expected to codeshare on Air Canada services between Toronto and Barbados and Antigua, as well as Trinidad, and later on flights beyond Toronto to Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.

BWIA is also due to begin flights to Washington DC from 31 October, operating four services a week from Trinidad.

The airline is thought to be discussing possible codeshares with United Airlines. Air Canada and United are both Star Alliance members, so commercial deals with the pair would move BWIA closer to that camp.
