Flight training provider CAE is expanding its footprint in Asia with the opening of new training centres in Thailand and India, as well as new training contracts with airlines in the region.
The company's new Bangkok training centre will be located at Don Mueang International airport and become operational in 2020, primarily serving training partner Thai AirAsia.
CAE states that the facility will start with two Airbus A320 full-flight simulators, and has the potential to expand up to six full-flight simulators. With the Bangkok facility operational, Thai AirAsia pilots will not need to travel to CAE’s Kuala Lumpur facility for training.
In India, its Gurugram facility will be located near Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, and have two A320 full-flight simulators when it opens in 2020. The facility will be a joint venture between CAE and low-cost carrier IndiGo’s parent company InterGlobe Enterprises.
Separately, CAE has inked a commercial aviation training contract with new Korean low-cost carrier Fly Gangwon. The three-year contract will see the carrier’s pilots train on the Boeing 737 platform in CAE’s Seoul facility. Fly Gangwon’s pilots will begin their initial type-rating training later this year.
Existing CAE customer Philippine Airlines has also signed a two-year pilot training deal — one for Boeing 777 training in Singapore, and another for A350 training in Tokyo.
