Boeing has been awarded a $123 million contract by the US Navy to modernise the cockpits of its 16 E-6 Mercury national command post aircraft. Boeing will adapt its Next Generation 737 cockpit and avionics architecture to the E-6 fleet as a cost-effective means of achieving compliance with global air traffic management requirements. This will give the navy continued access to preferred airspace as International Civil Aviation Organisation guidelines are implemented worldwide.
