Boeing's first US Air Force Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle Delta IV was launched from Cape Canaveral on 20 November, placing Eutelsat's W5 communications satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit. The Delta IV model was a Medium Plus 4.2, one of five planned variants. It was powered by a 650,000lb-thrust (2,890kN) Boeing RS-68 first-stage cyrogenic engine - the world's most powerful cryogenic engine. The next Delta IV will carry a USAF satellite in January.
