Delta Air Lines has launched in-flight Internet service on its regional aircraft, with the first flight of a WiFi-enabled Bombardier CRJ700 today.
The aircraft, operated by Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines, took off from Atlanta and will make scheduled stops in Omaha, Des Moines and White Plains.
Delta had earlier announced it would equip 250 regional jets with WiFi capability provided by Gogo, in addition to offering WiFi on its entire mainline domestic fleet of more than 550 aircraft.
"With the addition of Gogo in-flight Internet service on Delta Connection two-class regional aircraft, more than 81,000 additional customers daily will be able to stay connected just like they do onboard Delta's mainline fleet," said Bob Kupbens, Delta's VP of eCommerce.
The installation of onboard WiFi on Delta's regional jets will be complete by early 2012. By then, more than 80% of Delta's entire domestic fleet will feature Gogo in-flight Internet, said the airline.
Delta's regional flights, operated under the Delta Connection banner, are operated with Embraer 170s, 190s, CRJ700s and CRJ900s.
