The citing of El Al (Flight International, 15-21 January) as a model for "beating terrorism" is interesting but not appropriate.
El Al operates fewer aircraft, for far fewer hours per year, servicing fewer cities than most carriers. Not a single aircraft in the El Al fleet averages three flights per day.
Their style of security, while it works, cannot be utilised economically by most of the world's airlines, which are not state supported and operate up to eight flights a day, with fleets up to 30 times the size of El Al's fleet.
