American Airlines will begin testing Class 1 electronic flight bags (EFB) next month on its fleet of 44 Boeing 777-200ERs, according to the carrier’s pilot union. Dubbed “First Step”, the programme is expected to run for about six months with pilots participating on a voluntary basis. The Allied Pilots Association estimates that about 75% of the carrier’s pilots carry laptop computers on flights, and that most will participate.
