TRW of Redondo Beach, California, has opened a cryogenic electric propulsion test stand as part of its programme to develop technologies for fuel-efficient electric propulsion systems for spacecraft. These could provide primary thrust for interplanetary spacecraft or attitude and orbit control functions for communications satellites.
