Israel plans to launch a small satellite system, called David, to provide remote sensing data for agricultural, environmental, water preservation and scientific research. The satellites will carry a camera system provided by ElOp which will provide 12 overlapping Earth images with high spatial and spectral resolution, with 12 narrow bands in the visible and near infra-red spectral regions. It will have a 5m (16ft) resolution.

ElOp is supplying camera systems for a series of Israeli spacecraft and also for ImageSat International's Eros commercial remote sensing satellite launched in December 2000.

Eros flies in a 480km (300 mile) polar orbit providing panchromatic images of 1m resolution and will be followed a second-generation satellite.

ElOp has also developed a 6.5kg (14lb) miniature compact camera for microsatellites. This will cover a swath of more than 100km with a 16m resolution from an altitude of 400km.
