Brussels and Washington have reached an agreement on the issue of supplying the Passenger Name Record (PNR) data of passengers aboard European carriers to the US Department of Homeland Security.

The compromise will allow the DHS to use of elements of the PNR for border security.

Brussels had opposed the transfer of data because it was deemed a breach of European Union data protection laws, but has been offered what it describes as "adequate" privacy protocols.
