Eurocopter contracts underline Malaysian ambitions
Malaysia will become a hub for aviation services and training in the Asia-Pacific region, says Dato’ Seri Chan Kong Choy, the country’s minister of transport. He made the comment at a ceremony marking the signing of two contracts with Eurocopter for the supply of helicopters to Malaysian operators. Eurocopter signed an MOV with Borneo-based Hornbill Skyways, the largest helicopter operator in Eastern Malaysia, for the supply of three EC135 helicopters. These will join two existing EC135s in the company’s 11-strong fleet.
Second contract
The second contract was signed between Eurocopter and Integrated Training and Services (IT&S), for two EC120B helicopters, which will join the three EC120s already in service at the company’s academy in Ipoh, Perak. IT&S was described as the leader in helicopter training programs in Malaysia, and has recently secured training contracts from the royal Malaysian navy, Malaysian army aviation, the royal Malaysia police and fire and rescue department. The company is also negotiating a training program for the Malaysian maritime enforcement agency.
On the occasion of this ceremony, Eurocopter confirmed its participation as a main exhibitor in the Lima, Langkawi airshow, which will take place in December this year.
Some 13 Eurocopter helicopter types are currently certified in Malaysia.
