The Aerotrophy Eurofox motorized ultralight (ULM) looks like conventional light aircraft - but its small size, low weight and low cost is winning it plenty of fans at flying schools.
Built in Slovakia, it has a good standard of performance, with STOL capabilities and the ability to fly at speeds ranging from 62km/h to 195km/h, and it comes either as a tail-dragger or with a tricycle undercarriage. It is on display in the recreational and leisure static area.
It has easy-to-fold wings and is simple to repair in the event of a minor accident. Because of its operational simplicity and portability, the Eurofox is pitched at both recreational pilots and flying schools. It costs €37,975 ($45,950), and is available with an optional trailer that allows it to be towed behind a car.
The French microlight association is a strong voice in French general aviation, with over 10,000 members flying 5,000 aircraft. Edouard Monnier, commercial pilot with Aerotrophy's sister company Teameurostar, believes that microlighting and ULMs will be big business in France over the next few years. With rising fuel costs and complicated regulatory developments that threaten to hike up prices for conventional single-engine piston pilots, as well as airfield closures, Monnier feels that microlighting will be the future sport of choice for European GA pilots.
