Elisra is a major supplier of sophisticated electronic warfare (EW) systems, even if it can't always tell you the names of its clients.
Menahem Oren, of Elisra's Defence Systems Division, says: "We are a major supplier to the Australian navy and air force, but many of other customers in this region would rather we didn't talk about them."
What he can say is that Elisra systems are now installed on more than 30 types of fixed and rotary wing aircraft worldwide. Elisra is not a major player in the EW market, with worldwide sales of $130 million last year, but as Oren points out the company's customers like Elisra for different reasons.
"They like our products' quality, performance and price. They may be niche products but they are well respected," he says.
In major tenders Elisra typically competes with global industry leaders and is currently competing with Raytheon and Thomson in a $150 million tender to supply the Greek air force with EW systems.
Among the company's most recent innovations is the Advanced Self-Protection Suite (ASPS) - a major system for front line fighters and light combat aircraft. It includes a passive self-protection and situation awareness system and active self-protection jammer integrated into an EW suite.
The Integrated EW Suite (IEWS) is Elisra's latest concept for helicopters and integrates passive subsystems with an active Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) jammer able to cope with both Eastern and Western threats. For naval EW application, Elisra solutions can offer 100% detection probability and identification.
