The Inflight Entertainment Consortium (IFEC) has announced plans at the show to team up with Vitec Multimedia to upgrade in-flight entertainment and put digital MPEG video onboard aircraft.

Vitec is demonstrating its latest MultiPEG multi-channel encoder here on its stand (Hall 3, Stand D3) and IFEC is on hand to talk about its role in the partnership.

Both believe they can offer products across the range of military, commercial and general aviation aircraft.

Decade

With international headquarters in Chantillon, France, Vitec has been working on MPEG technology for over a decade.

Speaking at the show, Vitec president Philippe Wetzel says: "Vitec brings a depth of experience in a wide range of video applications for the aerospace market and can easily help IFEC provide video on demand MPEG products including movies, seminars and more.

"The company has established many aerospace customers over the years and has tested compatibility with most of the existing terrestrial and satellite broadcast entertainment systems. Our MPEG solutions have proven field reliable in mission critical environments."

IDEC, a consortium of companies, was founded by aviation software and video professionals specifically to provide cost-effective in-flight entertainment.
