CFM International's new president and chief executive will be Pierre Fabre of Messier-Bugatti, the engine manufacturer will announce today at the Paris airshow.
Fabre, who currently is executive vice-president of Messier-Bugatti's wheels and brakes division, will succeed CFMI president Gerard Laviec, who retires at the end of August. The official handover will take place on 1 September.
CFMI is a joint venture company between General Electric (GE) and Snecma, producing the CFM56 family of engines that power Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s. Messier-Bugatti is a subsidiary of Snecma Group. Laviec has been with CFMI since 1976 and has been president and chief executive since September 1995.
Fabre has previous experience with CFMI and Snecma, having held management posts with both companies. In 1996 he was named CFMI executive vice-president and CFM56 programme director for Snecma. He will move from France to CFMI¹s headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Successful
"I am looking forward to continuing the very good job that Gerard has done and to reinforcing the highly successful role that CFMI plays in its market sector," says Faber.
"When you are number one in the market you stand out and you can never afford to relax. But that¹s a very good focus to have.
"CFMI is in excellent shape, leading in terms of sales and deliveries. The main challenge is to continue to deliver to our customers."
In his new role, Fabre will be responsible for the overall results of the CFM56 engine programmes and the profitability of the joint company, as well as development of the worldwide market. He will also serve as the general delegate for Snecma to the USA and Canada.
